Safer life cycle of advanced 2D materials used in energy applications. SAFE2ENERGY

The main objective of Safe2energy is to assess the potential (eco) toxicity and occupational risks of a couple of two-dimensional materials, BP and hBN, proposing, if necessary, management measures to be adopted by industries to mitigate them.

Two-dimensional materials are interesting materials for a wide range of applications. However, as they are emerging materials, their effects on health or the environment have not been well studied and the following activities will need to be carried out to ensure their safety:

  1. Assessment of the (eco)toxicological impact of BP and hBN by adapting existing methodologies to 2D materials where necessary.
  2. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Risk Assessment (RA).
  3. Identification of risk management and mitigation measures.
