Calculation and Design


When considering a part for composite manufacture or migrating from metal to composite for lightweighting, a number of factors need to be taken into account at the design stage.

Our lines of work:

  • Material selection strategies (fibres, resins, cores…) for the development of composite components.
  • Methods for the selection of manufacturing processes for the development of composite components.
  • Correlation between theoretical elastic and strength constants and those obtained from mechanical tests
  • Design and calculation of composite parts using CAD (NX) / CAE (Ansys) software.
  • Design for the migration of a metallic product to composite
  • Design strategies for composite parts.
  • New accelerated methods for long-term thermo-mechanical characterisation.
  • Multi-scale digitalisation of the thermo-mechanical performance of composites.
  • Determination of the dynamic performance of composite materials.

Major Projects

Fopto 75 tensiones junta

The aim of this project is to determine the dynamic behaviour of complex materials in order to predict the vibrational response of automotive components.

The main aim of the project is to investigate and obtain a solution that allows multi-scale digitisation combined with ML and accelerated testing methodologies to study the long-term behaviour of composites.

GAIKER is doing research into new accelerated long-term thermomechanical characterisation methods, and the effect of the manufacturing process and the derived microstructure
