The aim of this project is to revolutionise the current process of regenerating granular activated carbon used in water treatment by means of thermal processes, using a new electrochemical technology that is more sustainable and which also has a number of advantages over current regeneration processes. A portable modular plant will be built with this technology, which will be operated and validated at different installations (Spain, Cyprus). Moreover, the project will develop predictive tools to determine the half-life of activated carbon, new process indicators for this new technology, and proofs of concept for possible applications of spent carbon (second life), thereby contributing to sustainability and circularity.
