The overall mission of the project is to identify chronic liver disease markers (metabolic metabolites or profiles) that constitute useful tools in clinical practice and in the development of new drugs. The specific objectives of the project are to evaluate conditions of sample storage, transport and handling for simpler, cheaper diagnosis. In addition, these same markers are sought in samples taken in a less invasive manner with a view to obtaining the most suitable methods for patients.

Development and tailoring of a molecular system to detect norovirus in foodstuffs by means of real-time RT-PCR. NORDETEK
Development of a fast, sensitive, specific and low-cost diagnosis based on molecular techniques to detect norovirus in the food quality control laboratory. The project will help to guarantee food safety, favouring the reduction and prevention of foodborne outbreaks caused by these pathogens, with the subsequent benefit for society.

Portable microfluidic based device for in situ detection of viable legionella. PINVIALEG.
Development of a portable device for the effective fast and easily interpreted detection of viable legionella cells (sensitivity requirements as per current legislation) during the analysis of water for human consumption. The equipment, microfluidic-based, will permit in situ analysis and concise identification, based on molecular techniques, thereby improving quality and safety for European citizens.
