Industry and services providing a response to the challenge of aging. ELDERBASK
This project, headed by leading research bodies in the Basque Country, is the first official step in transferring existing Basque industry value and skills with the objective of dealing with the problems generated by today's demographic tendencies, focussing on attention to the phenomenon of aging and the high rate of chronic disease existing locally and worldwide. From a gerontological point of view, the idea is to research not only "what they do", but to take a deeper look at "why they do it", identifying and monitoring the situation in order to understand what happens to them and therefore be able to do something about it beforehand and individually.

Development and transferral of a non-invasive molecular diagnostics system for colon cancer in peripheral blood. CRC MARKERS
The primary target of this project is to develop a new and non-invasive molecular diagnostics system for colon cancer in peripheral blood from a routine blood extraction, to substitute other more expensive and aggressive exploratory techniques. Part of the activities in this project will involve the design of a business plan and the carrying out of activities to commercialise the results with the ultimate aim of reverting them to society. A meeting therefore took place in the same consortium between the Medical Oncology Services of several hospitals in the Osakidetza network: Cruces, Basurto and Oncologikoa through Bioef, the Dept. of Computational Sciences and Artificial Intelligence through the OTRI (Office for the Transfer of Research Results, University of the Basque Country) and Gaiker's Biomedicine Service along with its Exploitation of Results Department.

Open health platform in biopharmaceutical experimentation. PLASMA
To develop an infrastructure to support all phases in the research and development of new biomarkers and drugs. The idea is to provide an experimentation platform, open and accessible to the science and research community in the field of drug development. This will provide a cross-cutting research basis, the validity of which as an approach and effective tool can be proven.
This project aims to establish the basis for the first of the clinical experimentation phases, and to provide the elements necessary for more effective development of those that follow. The preclinical phase represents more than 27% of total investment in the R&D of a pharmaceutical product.
At PLASMA the intention is to introduce strategies leading to drug discoveries by means of the shared and open use of available information. To achieve this, one essential task is the design and implementation of a platform to support the research and development phases of a drug and the later stages of its associated clinical experimentation.
