Workshop on Latest Developments in Sorting and Separation Technologies for WEEE Plastics (CloseWEEE Project)

The European Project CloseWEEE “Integrated solutions for pre-processing electronic equipment, closing the loop of post-consumer high-grade plastics, and advanced recovery of critical raw materials antimony and graphite” organizes this workshop in order to demonstrate the latest developments in the value chain of plastics and the approach from the secondary raw material recovery from WEEE to the manufacturing of new products.

 Date:  25th April 2017

 Introduction

Waste electric and electronic equipment (WEEE) is a complex waste stream comprising metals, glass, wood, plastics and other materials, which contains significant amounts of highly valuable resources.

The European WEEE directive requires the recycling and recovery of secondary raw materials from WEEE. Nevertheless, due to presence of hazardous compounds, such as brominated flame retardants, significant amount of WEEE plastics is not being recovered yet.

 Aims
* Presenting the latest developments and implementations in separation and sorting technologies for plastics contained in WEEE.
* Latest developments in technologies for polymer sorting applied to WEEE.
* Latest developments in technologies for sorting brominated flame retardant (BrFR) containing and BrFR-free plastics from WEEE.
* Added-value applications for recycled materials.

 To whom
* Recycling industries, waste collection companies, waste separation companies, waste management associations, clusters…
* Final users of recycled plastics.
* Public administration, local governments and organisms.
